Not this week, we're trying to wrap everything up. The goal is for next week. Brian is finishing up the Active Forums 4.1 Integration today

Any update on this? Is there a document that discusses how integration with Active Forums works? Or a sample site?

Any thought of migrating forums on this site to ActiveForums, for a concrete live example?

Re: Active Forums v4

We actually haven't discussed moving to AF, but with all the bugs I think we definitely should look into that. As for how the AF integration works, basically if you enable AF Comments in a Publish article, when the first comment is added it will create a thread in the forum that article's parent category is assigned to, the first post will be title after the article, with the description of the article and a link to the article. The second post is that of the comment that was entered. After that when someone clicks on add comment it takes them to the forum thread for review/posting.

As for the release, our goal right now is a 12/1 release for Publish 5.3, as always that is subject to change, but we really want to get this release wrapped up.

Re: Active Forums v4

So the comments to a given article are not visible on the article detail page, only in the forum, correct?

It seems to me it would be important to be able to see the comments inline with the article. Any thought of somehow rendering the discussion thread with the article? Is there at least a visual cue on the article detail page that comments have been posted, how many, etc.?

I really think this is a great enhancement, making comments a thread in a category forum, but it sounds like it comes at the expense of maintaining the context of the article with the comments. I want to have my cake and eat it too!

Re: Active Forums v4

You can see the integration between Publish and AF 4.0 on my site, www.lawsonguru.com.  (you don't need to register/login to see the forums, but you do need to register/login to see the articles).

Publish categories are linked to AF forums.

Here is an example of an uncommented article (see the 'Be the first to comment on this article' link at the bottom?):
http://www.lawsonguru.com/tabid/158/itemid/118/Deleting-a-GL-Budget-via-Excel-AddIns.aspx

When the user comments on the article, the article description and a link are added as a forum post, and the user's comments added as a reply to the post.  I'm very happy with the way that works.  Note, though, that the integration is "one way" from Publish to AF.  An enhancement I'd like to see is to be able to associate an existing article with an existing Forum post.

Here is an example of an article comment, from the forum perspective:
http://www.lawsonguru.com/Forums/tabid/96/forumid/1/postid/5369/view/topic/Default.aspx
and from the article perspective (see the 'Discuss this article' link at the bottom?):
http://www.lawsonguru.com/tabid/158/itemid/162/Uploading-to-Asset-Management-using-Lawsons-Excel.aspx

You are correct--the comments to a given article are not visible on the article detail page, only in the forum.

I agree that it would be a wonderful enhancement to be able to inject some of the forum comments into the article!

I'd also like to see the number of comments as well as be able to move the comments pane up within the article.

Re: Active Forums v4

Thanks John, that's very helpful!

It will be interesting to see if Chris comes back with thoughts as to whether these enhancements to the integration with AF may make it into the roadmap.
